Here are a few of my favorite clips. For a longer list of major work, please see my portfolio.

"Handling House Calls in a Managed Care World," is a New York Times article about an innovative company that works with private insurers and Medicare to give chronically ill individuals 24-hour access to doctors in their homes, at no extra cost to the patient.

"Get healthy...or else" profiles a Tennessee entrepreneur who forbids his workers from smoking -- at work, home or anywhere else -- as a condition of employment. The story appeared in Inc. magazine.

"Trying Out for Life's Second Act" is a New York Times article that illustrates the growing number of employees who start their own businesses as they near retirement age.

"Rolling Into Trouble" explains the potential risks for small business owners who sell out to consolidation companies. The article and its sidebar appeared as the cover piece for a Wall Street Journal special section on entrepreneurship.

"Hot Towns" details how several mid-sized U.S. cities create jobs and attract workers from more economically depressed metropolitan areas. Working as part of a team of reporters, I provided the lead example and other Florida anecdotes and quotes for this Time magazine piece.

"...and the dog you came in with" profiles a brash Mississippi governor who alienates his own party members by repeatedly berating their work. The essay appeared in The Economist magazine.

"Staring Down Change" offers tips on how to overcome the emotional baggage involved in running a family business in order to make effective changes. The article appeared in Crain’s Chicago Business.

"Mississippi Tries To Lay Its Ghosts" explains how the opening of secret government files about civil rights abuses both rekindles old racial tensions and helps heal them. It was published in The Economist magazine.

"Where There’s Smoke" is the story of the woman who invents a better ashtray and builds a successful business selling it. Her story offers several lessons on how to turn good ideas into profitable companies. The article was published in The Wall Street Journal.

"The Twilight Zone of Consciousness" describes the emotional fight between the husband and parents of a bedridden woman — partially conscious for many years — over whether life support should be removed. I provided reporting for this Time magazine article.

"Container Store Keeps Lid On Staff Turnover" uses the company’s management strategy to illustrate ways employers can keep good workers happy. The article appeared in Crain’s Chicago Business.

"Praying and Fighting" describes a governor’s race in Alabama that pits tradition and religion against business-oriented values. The essay appeared in The Economist magazine.
